Review Regulatory Framework Governing Solid Organs and Tissues and Reproductive Tissues

Project Type - Service planning

  • 2007

The Department of Health and Ageing appointed HOI in May 2007 to undertaking a mapping exercise of existing regulatory frameworks relating to solid organs and tissues and reproductive tissues. The purpose of the project is to inform Commonwealth, State, Territory and New Zealand stakeholders of the existing legislative arrangements, policies, guidelines and procedures.  The project entailed consultation with Australian and New Zealand jurisdictions to identify the current state of play of legislation, guidelines and procedures.  The mapping exercise included; identification of existing policies and procedures (not contained in the legislation); identification and documentation of each stakeholder for later consultation; and documentation of the linkages between each stakeholder.  The findings will be used to provide stakeholders in each State, Territory and New Zealand, TGA, AHMAC and the Clinical Technical Ethical Principal Committee (CTEPC) with data to inform discussion and debate between the Commonwealth, States and Territories and New Zealand on the development of a Tans-Tasman regulatory framework.
