SADD Evaluation

SADD Evaluation

Client: Land Transport NZ

The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) commissioned HOI, in association with the NZ Council for Educational Research, to evaluate the Students Against Driving Drunk (SADD) programme. SADD is a peer education programme aimed at reducing the harm caused by drink drivers by promoting the alternatives to drinking and driving among young people aged 13-17 through positive peer education and influences. The programme is run in secondary schools, by students, and aims to meet objectives within the New Zealand Curriculum for Schools. The purpose of the evaluation was to contribute to decisions about the long term future, scope and funding of the SADD programme. The evaluation included a literature review of good practice in similar programmes, and interviews with stakeholders including school students, teachers, principals, SADD staff, and national policy staff from a range of agencies.
