NSW Clinical Costing Implementation Audit
NSW Clinical Costing Implementation Audit
Client: NSW Health
Health Outcomes International was engaged by NSW health on 14 September 2009 to undertake an audit of the implementation of clinical costing approaches, methodologies and systems in NSW hospitals. The principle of focus of the audit was to evaluate the operation procedures and costing outputs of the hospital cost data collection and the national hospital cost data collections (NHCDC) to identify potential improvements. The key tasks are as follows:
- Develop audit review framework
- Identify improvements achieved to date in the costing practices since implementation of the current costing system
- Assess capability of IT systems implementation in Area Health Services and hospitals to support activity based costing
- Assess clinical costing processes and utilisation of consistent standards
- Review relevant audit and costing quality control mechanisms and define the most appropriate processes and responsibility for ongoing audit programs
- Develop implementation for improving clinical costing processes and accuracy of outputs
