PNG Health Sector Independent Monitoring Review Group
PNG Health Sector Independent Monitoring Review Group
Client: NZAID
All stakeholders recognize the need for an independent monitoring function to be part of PNG health system performance monitoring system. An independent monitoring function is important to provide an objective assessment of overall sector performance; an assessment of all parties - Governments and development partners - performance and contribution to sector performance, and provides an independent view on the causes of good/poor performance (and what, if anything, should be done to change performance).
Health Outcomes are an integral member of the review team and have a particular focus in assessing the governance of the mechanism established for development partners and the government to jointly plan, fund and procure support for the agreed key health sector strategic priorities.
Two missions are conducted per annum over the 2006 - 2009 period. The team aims to provide practical recommendations to improve governance arrangements and the delivery of health services in PNG. PNG operates a large and complex health system servicing over 6 million people with a budget of approximately A$300 million.
