Funding model options for dispensing of pharmacotherapies in community pharmacy

Client: Pharmacy Guild of Australia

The Pharmacy Guild of Australia undertook a research project to develop, implement and evaluate funding model options for dispensing of pharmacotherapies for opioid dependence in community pharmacy.  The broad scope of the project included the development of options for a best practice funding model for the subsidisation of pharmacotherapy dispensing costs within the community pharmacy setting to achieve optimal outcomes for the clients; and to trial and evaluate these options in a range of pharmacies, assessing efficiency and effectiveness, including impacts on health outcomes.  The project methodology involved collection of base line data, conducting a literature review; conducting a costing study of pharmacotherapy services; developing funding options; developing a framework for evaluating the efficiency and effectiveness of the 3 proposed options; conducting consumer interviews and the preparation of a final report.  Lilian Lazarevic was the Project Manager for this assignment whilst Director of Healthcare Management Advisors.
