The Department of Health, Western Australia engaged consultants to undertake a pricing review of the Oral Health Centre for WA public patient services. The review involved the development of a purchasing plan for the provision of dental services. The key components of the project included the development of a profile of existing services identifying the issues to be considered in the costing of services delivered; development of a classification system for services and activity based costing model utilising activity and financial data to derive average costs for each unit of service and preparation of an analytical report of activity based costs; development of activity based costing models for Dental Health Services, Victoria and SA Dental Services for the purposes of undertaking benchmark analysis; conducting comprehensive benchmark analysis of cost modelled data; and preparation of report together with recommendations regarding the validity of the proposal to benchmark service costs by service type and on the price to be paid for oral health services as part of future contractual arrangements.
