Research and Evaluation Services to Support the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program
Client: Australian Government Department of Health & Ageing
Health Outcomes International (HOI) was contracted to provide Research and Evaluation Services to support the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program (NBCSP). The Commonwealth Government invested $43.4 million over a three year period to phase in a national bowel cancer screening program, which would be evaluated prior to the 2008-09 Budget. The evaluation of the pilot bowel cancer screening program occurred in 2004 and raised issues around workforce and service impacts for screening and particularly colonoscopy services. As a result, the Government commissioned research and evaluation into the workforce, service and infrastructure impacts of the screening program. HOI conducted the consultancy in eight stages: Project Initiation & Planning; Situation Analysis; Baseline Data Collection; Baseline Data Analysis; Develop Impact Evaluation Framework; Impact Evaluation Data Collection; Stakeholder workshops and Final Report.
