craigCraig has recently been appointed to the HOI consulting team as a Lead Analyst, Manager. He has had extensive experience (over sixteen years) in the health sector. During this period he held a number of senior positions at hospital and regional health levels, having responsibility for Casemix and Clinical Costing, Systems Accounting and was involved in undertaking a range of service improvement projects at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and the Central Northern Adelaide Health Service.

Since 2007 Craig was the Project Manager, Financial Systems Consolidation with Central Northern Adelaide Health Service. In this role he assumed responsibility for the management of a Regional Project ($2.1 M) to standardise and consolidate six disparate Financial Systems into a single instance of the Homer Financial Modules. This project also included rationalising hardware to a single platform, establishing disaster recovery and business continuity capability and delivery of a consolidated Regional Data Warehouse supporting reporting and budgeting utilising a new Regional standard Chart of Accounts.

Craig was also involved in the implementation of a range of accounting and systems projects and initiatives whilst working for the Royal Adelaide Hospital in South Australia including:

  • Project management in relation to implementation; operation, development and maintenance of all Financial Management related information systems within the Royal Adelaide Hospital to ensure the provision of an effective, efficient and compliant financial service;
  • Provision of expert advice in relation to the strategic direction of business systems development;
  • Management of the development and implementation of systems and business process changes necessary at the Royal Adelaide Hospital for SA Health accrual accounting compliance and requirements of the Financial Management Improvement Project;
  • Project management for the implementation of the CHRIS human resource management and payroll system and related financial interfaces;
  • Project management of the implementation of systems, business process changes and policies necessary for compliance to the New Tax System legislation including GST and PAYG;
  • Development and implementation of numerous systems, databases, reporting and interfacing initiatives with supporting business process reengineering to streamline and improve efficiency, integrity, and reliability of data and information.

During the period 1993 to 1999 Craig was involved in the implementation of a range of casemix management programs and initiatives whilst working for the Royal Adelaide Hospital in South Australia including:

  • Involvement with the delivery of a Commonwealth funded project to develop a Sameday Procedure classification and cost weights;
  • Preparation of data submission for the National Cost Weights study utilising the Yale Cost Model;
  • Implementation of Trendstar Patient Costing system for the Royal Adelaide Hospital;
  • Post-implementation development of the Trendstar Patient Costing system at Royal Adelaide Hospital including extensive casemix and costing reporting and benchmarking;
  • Assisting in the development of the South Australian and NHCDC costing data for utilisation in the South Australian and National casemix weights;
  • Development of standard costs for gastrointestinal theatre procedures at Royal Adelaide Hospital which could be utilised in conjunction with the HASS Theatre system;
  • Development of Radiology service weights at Royal Adelaide Hospital and systems interfaces which enabled radiology test recharging within the hospital as well as assisting patient costing;
  • Ongoing development of cost recharging within the Royal Adelaide Hospital general ledger to assist in budget accountability and patient costing, eg, pathology, prosthesis, radiology, food services;
  • Participation in Health Round Table;
  • Development of performance indicators and monitoring reports for hospital management utilising casemix and patient costing data;
  • Analysis of impact of introduction of new versions of DRGs on funding models at royal Adelaide Hospital;
  • Review of methodology in Royal Adelaide Hospital for the fractioning of hospital expenditure into inpatient, outpatient, teaching and research components;
  • Development of hospital and clinical service activity targets and budgets.
