Specific Competence:

Michelle is a consultant in the New Zealand team based in Auckland. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Social Anthropology and brings strong interviewing, analytical and writing skills to project work.

Michelle’s research interests centre around social and cultural determinants to health as well as community based/development approaches to health promotion. At HOI, her primary research involvement has been related to nutritional and physical activity initiatives in schools, community led health and social support services and preventative initiatives in areas of mental health and youth and alcohol.

As a project manager, Michelle is effective in managing complex processes for gathering, analysing and reporting data. She particularly enjoys stakeholder engagement and is experienced dealing with a range of stakeholder groups from CEOs and clinicians to Māori, Pacific and other service users. Her main expertise lies in the conduct of focus groups as well as face-to-face and phone interviews. She writes high quality, succinct reports which enjoy a high level of endorsement from both clients and stakeholder groups.

Prior to joining HOI, Michelle held account management and administrative roles. She has also worked as a care-giver in both Sweden and New Zealand, in the areas of aged, dementia and disability care. Volunteering with the refugee settlement programme in Auckland, has furthered her competencies in multicultural settings.
